6 Fun Facts about the Wizard of Oz.

Fun Fact 1

‘Over the Rainbow’ narrowly escaped being cut from the film due to concerns about its length and sad tone.

Fun Fact 2

The 45kg Lion costume, made with real skin and fur, needed daily soaking/drying due to the actors excessive sweating.

Fun Fact 3

Actor Ray Bolger’s Scarecrow makeup left lasting lines on his face, taking over a year to fade after filming.

Fun Fact 4

During filming, the Tinman’s tears were chocolate syrup, a more convincing choice than oil for Technicolor.

In the poppy field scene, Dorothy and friends fall asleep as snow falls. Amazingly, it was 100% asbestos used.
