Our Senior Phase Program

The QCE is Queensland’s senior secondary schooling qualification. To be issued with a QCE, students need to complete the set amount of learning, at the set standard, in a set pattern, while meeting literacy and numeracy requirements.

QCE Factsheet

The QCIA recognises the achievement of students who undertake individualised learning programs. To be eligible, students must have impairments or difficulties in learning that are not primarily due to socioeconomic, cultural or linguistic factors.

QCIA Factsheet

The senior subject guide provides information with regards to the content, skills and assessments included in all the subjects and courses offered at Groves Christian College. The QCAA develops four types of senior syllabuses – General, Applied, Senior External Examinations and Short Courses.

Subjects Guide

An Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) allows tertiary admissions centres to compare students from across Australia when they apply for tertiary places. The ATAR is a number between 0 and 99.95, in increments of 0.05. ATARs below 30 are not reported.

Our Pathways

At Groves Christian College students can prepare for their future career by following a Workforce Ready pathway or a Uni-ready pathway. Students might want to pursue a career that require a mix of subjects & will therefore continue in a Blended pathway. This must be negotiated due to timetabling issues.

OP to ATAR Ranking Systems

In 2019, current Year 9 students will be the first to undertake the new senior pathway system that is being introduced throughout Queensland. These students will be the first to receive an ATAR score in 2020 when they graduate. Their ATAR score will be based on a mixture of internal & external assessment. We strongly encourage all families to view the following resource via the Department of Education & Training.

Subject Change Policy

Students are allowed to make minimal subject changes; however, careful consideration should be made of prerequisites for senior subjects, tertiary entrance, and QCE regulations. Partial completion of semesters contribute zero credits towards a QCE and such changes must only be considered at the completion of semesters. Subject changes are only permitted up to the second week of Semester 1 in a given year, and prior to the end of Term 2, for a Semester 2 change. It is the student’s responsibility to familiarise himself/herself with work covered prior to entry in a new subject. As such, any potential changes should be negotiated with the teacher prior to the end of the term preceding the change.

Reasonable care has been taken to ensure the contents of this handbook are correct at the time of publication. Whether individual non-core subjects actually run is conditional upon sufficient numbers of students choosing the subject and appropriate physical and human resources being available. The College reserves the right to alter subject offerings prior to the commencement of the school year.
