On Wednesday, 19 August, Year 4 students visited Calamvale Park as part of their HaSS and Science learning. With ideal weather for outdoor investigation, students explored the park to identify and compare natural and human-made features while considering how these spaces can be managed sustainably. They discussed the ways people use and care for local environments and reflected on how thoughtful design can support both community needs and environmental wellbeing.
Students also applied their Science learning by examining the properties of materials used throughout the park. They observed a range of materials found in playground equipment, pathways, shelters and other structures, and considered why particular materials were chosen for specific purposes. The incursion provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world examples and deepen their understanding of sustainability and material properties.
