From 17th – 21st August, Intermediate students enjoyed an exciting week of discovery as they celebrated National Science Week.
There was an incursion event with the company “Street Science” coming onsite to demonstrate Science in action. Year 5 explored the properties of light in the Light and Matter show, while Year 6 investigated energy and electricity through hands-on circuit workshops. Students especially enjoyed seeing their circuits successfully power light bulbs, connect to an FM radio and launch spinners in the air.
Classes also participated in Perform Education’s interactive science livestream, competing alongside schools from across Queensland. Students loved answering questions in real time and hearing their classes receive live shout-outs. Special congratulations go to 4E (Mrs Montgomery’s class), who achieved 3rd place overall on the second day of the competition.
Throughout the week, students designed and tested paper rockets, experimenting with different variables to discover how design changes affected flight performance.
The week concluded with a special Science Week Chapel, where Mrs Brain shared the Gospel message and used an iodine and ascorbic acid experiment to illustrate Christ’s cleansing work, reminding students that through Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross, we are forgiven and made “clean” before God. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” – (Romans 8:1)
National Science Week provided students with many opportunities to learn, investigate, and have fun through hands-on science experiences. We look forward to more exciting scientific discoveries in 2027.
