At Groves Christian College, we believe that learning should inspire students to pursue excellence, embrace challenge, and develop the gifts God has given them. Opportunities such as the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) Mathematics Competition encourage students to step beyond their comfort zones, persevere through complex problems, and discover the satisfaction that comes from deep thinking and problem-solving. This reflects our commitment to nurturing curious, resilient learners who are prepared to engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
This year, we were thrilled to have 75 students participate in the AMT Mathematics Competition. The competition provided students with the opportunity to tackle a range of challenging mathematical problems that extended well beyond the questions they would typically encounter in their everyday classroom learning. Students from across the College embraced the opportunity to test their skills against thousands of students from around Australia. It was particularly encouraging to see so many students willingly take on questions that stretched their mathematical understanding and pushed them to think in new ways.
The highlight of the event was not simply the competition itself, but the enthusiasm shown by our students. We are incredibly proud of all 75 participants for having the courage to give the competition a go. Attempting challenging problems, especially those that are significantly different from regular classroom tasks, requires confidence, determination, and a growth mindset. These are qualities that will serve our students well both inside and outside the classroom.
Experiences such as the AMT Mathematics Competition help students develop resilience and a love of learning. By engaging with rich and challenging mathematical problems, students gain valuable experience in persisting through difficulty and celebrating the process of learning, not just the final answer. It was wonderful to see students embracing the challenge and demonstrating such positive attitudes towards mathematics.
We would like to thank our Mathematics staff for their encouragement and support in preparing students for the competition. We are also grateful to our families for fostering a culture that values learning and challenge. Most importantly, congratulations to all 75 students who participated. Your willingness to take on difficult questions and challenge yourselves is something to be celebrated, and we look forward to seeing many students participate again in future competitions.
