In accordance with the Australian Curriculum, students from Year 4 to Year 6 participate in the following subjects in Distance Education:

Time Allocations

It is recommended that students are actively engaged in schooling for 25 hours a week (this includes curriculum based excursions, workshops and Teaching and Learning sessions). Families are offered a flexible timetable that allows them to fit this schooling around extracurricular activities and family schedules.

Below is a break-down of where this time could be spent. These times are indicative only, as some students will enjoy additional time spent on subjects they wish to explore more deeply, whereas others may benefit from extra time practising concepts which are more challenging to master.

Resources

Students are provided with text books, workbooks and digital resources on our online platform called Learner Link. They also have access to additional supplementary resources including Reading Eggs and Mathletics as tools to rehearse and consolidate core aspects of their Literacy and Numeracy.

Learner.Link

Learner Link is the name given to our online courses are run through a learning management system. This technology is the primary method of delivery of course content, tasks, quizzes, assessment and other similar course elements.

Teaching and Learning Sessions

Throughout each term, students in Year 4 to Year 6 participate in individual Teaching and Learning sessions for half an hour once a fortnight (approximately 7 sessions per semester, excluding sessions for orientation and termly feedback) for coaching and guidance with their curriculum content. During these sessions, students and their home tutor are given one-on-one tutoring and support. These sessions are run through Skype Business which is provided in the Office 365 suite that is inclusive in enrolment.

Assessments:

  • Students are assessed through Learning Check Points and Assessments, which are uploaded to our online platform Learner Link
  • Learning Check Points allow teachers to monitor each student’s progress throughout the term, informing them on area’s students need further support or extension work
  • Assessment pieces are predominantly used to gauge whether a student has understood the terms content in order to accurately report on a semester’s work
  • Home Tutors are provided with an Assessment task sheet that steps them through the task

Workshops, Excursions, Sporting Events and Camps

Students in Intermediate Phase enjoy a wide range of excursions, workshops and events in Distance Education throughout the year, including:

Workshops at various locations in South-East Queensland four times a year. These workshops cover a wide range of topics, such as Science, Robotics, The Arts and Design Technologies.

An overnight DE Intermediate Phase camp in Second Semester, with a focus on teambuilding and leadership.

A curriculum-linked excursion each term to a range of locations in South-East Queensland

Cross Country, Swimming Carnival and Athletics Carnival with peers on our Day School

Students with Additional Needs (SWANs)

Students with additional needs are supported by our specialised teachers in our SWANs programs. Each fortnight, SWANs teachers run Touchdown classes that provide students the opportunity to engage in small group activities.
