On Thursday 1st February, we celebrated the official opening of the Groves Community Carpark and Student Drop Zone. While we have already been using the carpark, it was time to officially recognise and be thankful for the provision of this facility. Our Year 12 students gathered to mark the occasion, which was officially declared open by The Hon Dr Jim Chalmers, Treasurer, Member for Rankin.
The car park adds value to our community by lifting the safety and convenience for parents and students on arrival and departure from school. Spanning an extensive 6000 square meters, the Groves Community Car Park offers 133 car spaces, including three designated for limited mobility, ensuring accessibility for all.
In response to increased enrolments and to facilitate smoother traffic flow, the college took the necessary step of buying eight houses, paving the way for this much-needed car park. Our students and community members will now reap the benefits of the Groves Community Car Park in full operation, complete with an extended drop zone for added convenience. Furthermore, an additional bus drop and load zone have been strategically positioned at the front of the car park along Laughlin St.
This project was jointly funded by the Australian Government under the Capital Grants Program and the Groves Christian College Community.
