Throughout this term our Year 9 Health classes have been completing a unit on Mental Health. We have utilized the Black Dog Institute Head Strong program to explore a range of key concepts including the stigmatisation of mental health and mental illness as well as strategies to seek support, reach out and support others.

This week we invited our school counsellor, Jes Reh, to our lessons. Together we developed a range of questions to ask Jess which guided informative conversations around mental health and access to mental health services. Students were particularly interested in discussing the signs of mental illness and how to support a friend or family member who is struggling. We also participated in some role-play scenarios to reflect on and develop helpful conversational tools with a focus on active listening and empathy.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Jes for joining us. The students very much appreciated your knowledgeable insight and contributions to these very important conversations!
