It has been an exciting term for Middle Phase. I have enjoyed being able to visit our classes and see students engaging in their content and learning in their classes.
Here are some of my highlights from this term:

Year 7 – Today we held the Groves World Expo, where our students put on display their excellent work on the PBL from this term. For more information, check out Alyssa Burns’ blog about this term. Every group I went to were able to tell me about the history, governance, tourism, and energy usage of their country. I was very impressed with the effort and knowledge students gained this term.

Year 8 – In Year 8 this term, I enjoyed going to classes and seeing students learn more about the Khmer Empire and how that empire affected not only modern-day Cambodia but the entire south-east Asia region. In their English classes, students had to understand and write diary entries from the point of view of someone in their stories, taking the time to understand characters and their issues, and think about the world in a different way than they normally would.

Year 9 – Transitioning to Senior Phase has been a focus for our Year 9 students’ this term. Students have attended Subject Selection evenings, and met with  Rene Nieuwoudt, our Head of Teaching and Learning for Senior Phase, and discussing with her what their pathway will look like as they start Senior Phase next year. As they approach their final term in Middle Phase, students are encouraged to maintain their focus and dedication to their work and finish the term well.

As we prepare for Term 4, there are few things to remember as we go into the break:
• First day back is Tuesday, 6th October. Being a Tuesday, that means students should be wearing their sports uniform. Students may also wear their sports uniform on Friday. Full formal uniform is worn on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
• If your child is considering getting a different hair cut , colouring their hair, getting a new piercing, or nail decoration, please consult the Personal Presentation and Uniform Code for Secondary to ensure that students are still able to follow the policy when they return.
• If you are buying new school shoes, make sure you check the School shoes policy to make sure the shoes you buy for your students follow the policy.
• Secondary Swimming Carnival will be held on Monday, 19th October.

From our Middle Phase team, we wish you and your families a safe holiday.
