In 10 Essential Mathematics this week, students explored how Pythagoras’ theorem is used in many vocations. We used the 3-4-5 rule to confirm that the painted lines for futsal and touch football fields were all square. (They were all square, great work College maintenance team!)

Landscapers use this rule to ensure the garden beds or lawns are square. Builders will use it to make sure the concrete slab for a house is square. Fencers use it to make sure that the fences they build meet in the corners at 90°.

It was great to understand how Pythagoras’ theorem is used in practical ways around our College and community. Please see the photo gallery below.
