Whether learning from home or on campus, students in Year 3 have explored important elements of the local community through their studies in Humanities and Social Sciences this term. Students were especially eager to learn about different Aboriginal people groups. As they engaged in discussions on lifestyle, language and culture, students were able to think critically about how their lives are similar and different to others in the Logan area.

One way students demonstrated their understanding was through the creation of personal totem poles. After examining how totem poles are carved from large logs to represent meaningful depictions of people and animals, students set to work. Their totem pole illustrations incorporated symbols and animals that represented important people and events in their lives. The Year 3 students demonstrated creativity and thoughtfulness as they reflected on their own experiences, learning valuable skills from other cultures.
