The Year 11 have been working hard completing their exams and final assessment items for the semester and working towards learning for their next unit.
The Year 11 Visual Art class have begun a new unit titled: Art as Code. Students have been exploring the ways that contemporary artists communicate using symbolism, metaphor, and coded languages. The practices of prominent contemporary artists are investigated, and the students are to create experimental artworks which are inspired by the artist’s practices. They are currently focusing on artists who use colour as a means of communication, and the first artist models of the unit are Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
Below is a sample of work from a Year 11 student.
“For visual art, we were tasked to create a piece of art that uses our chosen object from earlier in the year and base it off of Christo & Jeanne-Claude’s works. My chosen object was a shoe. The bright red colour, the size, and reflection all help to give the idea of scale and magnitude, which effectively captures Christo & Jeanne-Claude’s style.”

“The first project was important because photography is a hobby I love. It was developed through finding things that relate to a camera. The colours coming in from the sides are represented as film coming out of an old camera.”
