Queensland’s Chief Medical Officer, together with the Education Department, has planned a staged return for Queensland State Schools. We are already well advanced in our return to learning at school, with our on-campus numbers having increased steadily every day. Our position has always been to support you in the education of your children and to provide a physical classroom opportunity for any of your children you feel need to attend school.

It now seems that all parties, Commonwealth and State, are agreed that a staged return to full education at school is desirable. Coincident with the Queensland Chief Medical Officer’s advice, we will return to teaching classes at school for all students in Kindergarten, Prep, Year 1, Year 11 and Year 12 this coming Monday, May 11. The remainder of year levels are then planned for Monday, May 25, 2020. As school returns to a full service provision on campus, our teaching focus will necessarily be directed towards our at school classes.

This continuing return to ‘normality’ will require continued diligence and effort from all of us. Specifically it will include physical distancing of adults at key points and times in the school day such as drop-off and pick-up, and routines for hygiene and cleaning.

Activities such as assemblies, camps, inter-school activities, sporting and arts events are still not permitted at this time but the situation will continue to be reviewed to determine when these additional activities can be resumed.

The most important ways to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the school environment are the same as in the broader community. Please encourage and support the children in your care to do the following, because you are their role model:

• Clean your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitiser
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or bent elbow when coughing or sneezing.
• Avoid touching your face, nose and mouth, and avoid shaking hands.
• Stay home if you are sick. This is the most important thing you can do. If you have any respiratory symptoms, please get tested for COVID-19.
• Practice social distancing outside your household, including staying 1.5 metres away from others as much as you can.

Once again, please remember that students from any year level who need to be at school have the option to physically attend school.

Thank you for your ongoing support of us as we seek to continue to support you.
