In Week 9, on Friday, Foundation Phase staff, students and parents gathered in the Undercover area for Chapel. Students learned how King Saul from the Bible became scared when the Philistines pressed in during battle. He turned to God but received no response due to his disobedience. Once Samuel revealed that Saul and his sons would perish in battle, Saul, despaired and fell to the ground. During battle, King Saul and his sons, including Jonathan, died. When David received the news of his king’s death as well as his best friend, he was very upset and together with his men, they mourned and fasted. David then composed a beautiful lament for Saul and Jonathan where he described them to be swifter than eagles and stronger than lions. Even though Saul had always tried to harm David, David still had gracious and kind words to speak of Saul after his death. Foundation students were encouraged to keep love and faithfulness consistent in their lives as it attracts God’s favour. David’s love and faithfulness for Saul was evident and consequently, God blessed him. The scripture for the week was, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart”-Proverbs 3:3. Chapel concluded with songs of praise to God and prayer.

For our final Assembly of the term, Foundation students received their certificates of achievements to celebrate all their hard work. The “Class of the Week” went to 2M for their small group participation in Digital Technologies lessons. Our “Servant Leader” certificate was presented to Tyler from 2M for his kind and compassionate heart towards his peer during Father’s Day chapel. The “Reading Hero” certificate was awarded to Xavier from 1M and he read a wonderful paragraph from “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr Seuss. The Mathletics trophy was presented to 1W. Students were reminded to show resilience through a problem-solving skit where instead of giving up and being upset when situations do not go how we anticipate them, it is important to speak to the person to try and resolve the matter. Mr Matthews reminded students about the upcoming Foundation Sports Day in Week 1 of Term 4. Students were encouraged to drink plenty of water on the day and wear their hats and sunscreen for protection from the sun. Students from 2H and their teacher, Miss Hows concluded the Assembly with prayer.
