The Foundation Movement Group began in Week 7, where students who benefit from transitioning games took part in gross motor-skill activities to improve their classroom readiness. Through ‘mini-lessons’ with our Foundation Teacher Aides, these students enjoyed structured games and challenges, using excess physical energy and refocusing their thinking towards learning mindsets of persistence and determination. This week, the short 15 minute activities involved a warm-up session of ‘making waves’ with their arms, followed by a game of soccer and Red-Rover which focused on developing friendships while offering opportunities to practise regulating emotions. We are looking forward to seeing friendships grow and classroom transitions refine, with eventual improvement in attention span and self-direction as our students share in the Movement Group on a weekly basis.
