Groves Christian College is full of life. The Year 6 Winter Ball was a wonderful event that celebrated the mid-point of our Year 6 students’ schooling life. I thank parents for presenting their children so well. The students’ behaviour was excellent on the night. A big thank you to the staff who organised and hosted the evening. Top marks to our senior hospitality trainees and trainers for preparing the meal and serving us. It was delightful to see such a spirit of excellence. Amongst the fun of dancing, chatting, and eating, the students were challenged to be strong and courageous as they make daily decisions that will shape who they will become in life. We prayed that we would seek to be shaped in godly character, that they would not shy away from being the person God desires them to be.

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7-9 New International Version (NIV)

Year 3 transition to Campus 2

Everything is set for the final stage of the Year 3 transition to Campus 2. From the start of Term 3 students will be located full time in their new classrooms on Campus 2. I thank the teaching and facilities staff for making this transition so smooth for the students.

Senior work experience

Following their end of semester exam block, most of our senior school students are undertaking work experience this week. This annual experience enables students to explore possible career paths and is part of the transition from study to work life.

Bus transport

We are blessed at Groves to have our own modern fleet of buses. The Groves home-school transport routes enable students to catch reliable bus services to and from school. The bus fleet also plays an important role in connecting our two campuses. The bonus of having our own bus fleet is our ability to organise sports trips and excursions throughout the year trusting our own drivers to transport our students. Recently we purchased our latest bus that will boost our capacity further.

Campus 1 expansion

As you drive along Laughlin Street you will see another house has been removed. We are committed to improving car parking for parents. The expansion of the temporary carpark has already made the afternoon pick up so much better.

Time for a break

After a productive semester of schooling it is time for a break. I encourage students to get outside during the holidays and restrict their screen time. Many of our senior students will be working and this provides them with valuable skills too. We continually receive positive remarks about how pleasant our school grounds look. Our facilities staff do a great job. While students and teachers will be on a well-earned break, a great deal of maintenance work will once again be undertaken to keep Groves not only looking good but technically well looked after too.

Looking ahead to Term 3

  • School recommences on Wednesday, July 17.
  • On Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 16, Groves is hosting a major Christian schools conference for over 700 people. We will have colleagues flying from three states to attend. Equipping our staff is an important aspect of our ministry.
  • Vacation care is available throughout the holiday period.
  • Secondary School Dance: Thursday, July 18.
  • Community Fair is coming up on Saturday, August 3.
  • Intermediate Phase Musical: 28 and 29 August (Ticket information).

Finally, 2020 Prep and Year 7 enrolments are regularly arriving in the College office. If you or a friend has a child needing to start Prep in 2020, I encourage you to submit your application. Likewise, if you have any friends or family who want their children to start in Year 7 in 2020 please encourage them to submit their application forms.

Thank you for partnering with us in the education of your children.

God bless,

Allan Weir
