In Year One this term, students have been going on schoolyard safaris during Science lessons. Earlier in the term, they attended a Build-A-Bug incursion where each student viewed special insects and constructed one of their own. This also prepared the students for their own schoolyard adventure. Before students went on their schoolyard safari, they all worked together in groups to discuss how to care for the animals. They discussed how to care for the environment that animals live in and for any animal they found on the playground. Students reminded each other to leave the environment clean, to not scare the animals they see and also to be very careful to avoid bites and stings. So, if you see a Year One student carefully rustling in your garden, it may be because they are on their own safari.
