Created for a Purpose
Our vision at Groves Christian College is to see young men and women with Loving Hearts and Strong Minds for God shine like stars as they pursue His purpose now and into eternity. This vision is elaborated in our values, virtues and character traits including the trait of Purpose. We believe that all our students are created for a purpose and have intrinsic God given potential.
Our staff here at Groves work diligently both inside and outside the classrooms to identify and encourage our students to discover their individual purpose. As students progress through their learning journey, they will start to recognise subjects and learning areas that capture their imagination and excitement. In the Primary School, we offer many different subjects, sports, clubs and extracurricular opportunities for students to try new things and develop as learners and the young people God has created them to be. As they progress into Secondary School there are opportunities for subject selection as they start to make intentional choices about their future and possible vocations.
Across the College this year we have been delivering chapel with connection to some overarching, college-wide themes. In these last few weeks our topics have centred around the stories behind the missionaries that our four sporting houses are named after: Aylward, Elliot, Carmichael and Livingstone. These houses are celebrated and supported by students and staff, especially on days like the upcoming Cross Country carnivals.
One such story is that of Gladys Aylward who was a missionary to China in 1936. She exemplified the value of purpose through service to the Chinese people, specifically the orphans for whom she cared and protected. These inspiring stories of Christian figures highlight values and virtues such as service, calling and responsibility, modelling to our children that God has a purpose and plan for them all.
We look forward to continuing to engage with these stories and encourage all the students at Groves to find their purpose in God’s plans for them.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11
