College Life: 2019, Term 1, Week 6

At Groves Christian College, we endeavour to work harmoniously alongside each other, following the example Christ set out for us. Although students in Distance Education only come together for workshops, excursions and events several times a term, it is uplifting to see how quickly they build friendships and how inclusive and welcoming they are to new students.

On Thursday, 21 March, Groves will hold its annual ‘Harmony’ day celebrations. As Groves is a diverse community, it is our opportunity to celebrate who we are and that everyone belongs. DE families are welcome to join us for the event. Further information will be available in next week’s Blog.

Cross Country

The Secondary and Primary Cross Country carnivals are happening next week! Please refer to the linked blogs for more detailed information about the carnivals. We look forward to seeing some of our DE students competing.

Feedback

As a college we are committed in supporting our teachers in gaining professional growth and development. This year our teachers will be completing a 360 degree review to help increase effective teaching. This is a powerful tool for improving student performance. Part of the 360 degree review will involve student feedback. Over the coming weeks DE families will be emailed a link to an online survey. Please take the time to complete this survey with your student as we appreciate the input.

Online Safety

In light of recent online tactics to scare children, we are reminded of the importance of monitoring our student’s online activities. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us to prepare our children to make wise choices, guiding them while they are young. In Distance Education, we make every effort to ensure students are provided with safe videos and materials to use, however, we encourage home tutors to discuss cyber safety regularly with your child.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
