College Life: 2019, Term 1, Week 5

Weekly work

As we move into the mid-way point of Term 1, students will be beginning to prepare for upcoming assessments. At Groves we educate for eternity and equip our students for life. It is important to support our students in developing time management skills in their weekly, termly and assessment work. As home tutors, there are several ways to support your child; provide a calendar to map out assessments, a weekly plan of tasks to complete and setting deadlines before due dates to enable review time. We encourage you to work closely with your child’s teacher/s as they are able to provide specific strategies to support your child. There are a variety of ways to communicate with our teachers; phone, email, Learner Link forums and Teaching and Learning sessions. If you are local to Groves, you are welcome to book in a time to visit our teachers on Campus 1.

Clear communication is an important part of this process. Home Tutors are required to regularly check on their students work and provide constructive feedback. Feedback is a powerful tool that enhances student achievement.

Big Day Out

Each year we invite our families to the ‘Big Day Out’. This year we went to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. These days are amazing as we have an opportunity to connect and learn more about our families and for our students to experience an excursion, just like day school. Please enjoy the photo gallery in the “Big Day Out Reflection” blog.

Senior Study Day

Each term we offer a study day for our Senior students to attend workshops, complete practical experiments and have small group support with their studies. As we continue these events each year, we begin to see friendships grow between our day school students and our DE students. Not only is it a day to enhance learning but to continue to build lifelong friendships. The study day held this week was a very productive day. Our College staff enjoyed interacting with our students face to face. Thank you to our students for your enthusiasm and participation.

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.  Ephesians 4:15 – 16
