Creating and Fostering Lifelong Learners

At Groves, we endeavour to create and foster lifelong learners. We encourage our students to be self-motivated with a passion to understand, connect the dots and ask, “Why?” Every child is on a developmental journey, from birth, and has the potential to achieve great things as they grow into the person they aspire to be. As a Prep to Year 12 College we have the ability to be heavily involved in this journey and encourage a love for learning with our students.

We do this through encouraging learning outside the classroom walls with the vision that learning happens anywhere at any time. As a College, we hold camps to allow students to experience exploration of self and growth in confidence that cannot always be facilitated in a traditional classroom environment. From prep, where we have several outdoor spaces to promote imagination and encourage constructive and creative play, to our senior years, where we encourage work experience outside the school walls, we create opportunities for our students to learn in many different ways.

Our staff at Groves aim to be positive role models for our students by promoting what a lifelong learner looks like. We aim to show them what it means to explore and be curious. One of the ways we use to encourage curiosity and critical thinking in Middle School is a subject called Philosophical Inquiry. This involves converting the classroom into a hub of cooperative inquiry, where all opinions are heard and where each student learns from one another. The skills and tools taught in Philosophical Inquiry can be utilised in any area of learning throughout our lives.

For Christians, teaching and learning are at the heart of our faith and the stakes are higher for refining holy curiosity and the mindset of a lifelong learner.
