The students of Year 6 developed simple and complex patterns with a range of hands-on materials. It was excellent to see how naturally some of the students were able to develop a general rule from a pattern. Furthermore, it was very pleasing to see how much persistence was applied by students for whom this process was more difficult. Each student was beginning to develop some of the key building blocks for algebra that they will continue to use in high-school and beyond.
