Women in Defence opportunities

This November, the Women in Defence team are offering a new exciting opportunity for female students who may be unsure what they want to do post school! ‘Challenge Yourself’ is an overnight adventure experience creating an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the ADF lifestyle to understand whether a career in the ADF is something they wish to pursue after school. The experience is open to female students in years 11 or 12 who are physically motivated and interested in a career in the ADF. Students will kick off their overnight experience with an introductory YOU Session at Defence Force Recruiting Brisbane. Following the YOU session, students will head to Gallipoli Barracks Enoggera to participate in a range of Army development experiences designed to inspire, inform and encourage students to challenge themselves. What is a YOU session? At the Your Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) Session, you will take the first step in the application process. The session involves aptitude testing, medical and careers coach counselling. The YOU session is designed around unlocking the opportunities available to you! There are over 200 job roles available within the ADF including a number of avenues of entry and job categories, many you may never thought of! Students have the opportunity to continue the application process in the months after the experience or if they decide that the ADF isn’t for them, they can choose to withdraw from the application process. ‘Challenge Yourself’ Draft Sequence of Events Thursday, November 9, 2018 0800 Students arrive Defence Force Recruiting, Ann St, Brisbane 0810 Brief by Women in Defence (WID) team 0900 Aptitude testing/YOU session 1130 Lunch 1230 Bus to Gallipoli Barracks 1300 Weapons Simulation Experience 1500 Opportunity for students to discuss their available pathways with our Career Counsellors 1600 Combat mentoring by WID team 1800 Dinner at mess 1900 Movie night – Wonder Woman Friday, November 10, 2018 0700 Breakfast 0800 Overwater Obstacles Course 1000 End of activity brief with the Women in Defence team 1030 Event concludes – Students to make their own way home Who can attend? -Female Students aged 16.5yrs and over -Must not have already started an application, currently in the application process, or sat a YOU session -Students must show an interest in finding out more about jobs in the ADF How to get involved?
