Learning about Patterns in Prep

This term in Mathematics, one of the topics the Prep students are learning about is patterns. This week we have started unpacking this topic and the students have been learning how to create simple patterns. We have also discussed where we can see patterns in everyday items, such as on animals, buildings and in artwork.

Students have discovered that you can use almost any object to make a pattern. You can use man-made materials such as pencils, coloured paddle pop sticks and toys, and you can also use natural materials such as leaves, sticks and rocks. We even practised using our heights to make patterns as we lined up.
