Photography Competition

The Goodna Jacaranda Festival has been a community staple for over 50 years, capturing the hearts and community spirit of those who live in the area.

It is then with great pleasure that we have been afforded the opportunity here at Think Tank to facilitate a since forgotten but much loved tradition of the Festival.

To celebrate the 2018 Goodna Jacaranda Festival we are pleased to announce the first annual “Goodna Jacaranda Festival Photography competition”. This competition is a wonderful opportunity for local photographers to showcase their work, gain community recognition and be published in print.

KEY DATES
OPEN: 8:30 AM Thursday 1st February 2018

CLOSE: 4:30 PM Saturday 1st of September 2018

Judges will review the entries between 1st September – 9th September 2018 and winning pieces will go to print and be available for purchase at the info kiosk at the 2018 Jacaranda Festival.

AWARDS CEREMONY
From 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Friday 26th October 2018 the winners will be announced and invited onto the main stage to accept their award certificate, framed print and 2019 festival calendar, all entrants are encouraged to attend the ceremony.

Winning entries into the competition will be on display at the festival for the duration of the event and on the Jacaranda Festival website with links to their website/socials.

Images must be taken in Goodna and its surrounding suburbs (10 km radius).

MAJOR AWARDS
1) OVERALL ADULT WINNER
Two images will be selected from all of the categories and represent the judges overall favourite images from the adult submissions, award will be given to the overall winner (2019 calendar cover photo) and their runner up (image: March).

2) OVERALL SCHOOL AGE WINNER
Two images will be selected from all of the categories and represent the judges overall favourite images from the school aged submissions, award will be given to the overall winner (image: January) and their runner up (image: May).

3) OVERALL INSTAGRAM WINNER
One image will be selected from those posted to the Jacaranda Festival Instagram account using the hashtag #jacfestinstacomp. The image must feature the colour purple to be eligible to win. This image will be a peoples choice, the most likes will represent the winner, in the case where there is an even matching a decider post will be made by the festival for a community vote. CATEGORY AWARDS
ADULT 2018 CATEGORY – JACARANDA FESTIVAL HISTORY ALIVE
Reflect the wonderful heritage of the Jacaranda Festival Goodna by capturing its rich and deep running history within the region. This category is open to any style of photography, from the Jacaranda trees to Grandma’s stories about chopping apples for the festival parade. Show us the history of the Jacaranda Festival embodied image and captured forever! The winner will be featured as February’s image and the runner up as July’s image.

HIGH SCHOOL 2018 CATEGORY – LIVEABLE GOODNA
Reflect the beauty of the natural flora and fauna of goodna, the people, the suburb and its surrounds, the community pride or more. This category is open to any style of photography so show us what you think is amazing and beautiful about the area and what makes Goodna and its surrounds so liveable. Winning image will be featured as Octobers image and the runner up as Augusts image.

PRIMARY SCHOOL 2018 CATEGORY – JACARANDA EXCITE
Reflect what makes the festival exciting for kids! Show fun and excitement through your eyes. This category is open to any style of photography, we want to see a manifestation of excitement. Capture what makes the festival special for you. Winning image will be featured as Aprils photo and runner up will be featured as Septembers photo

OPEN AWARDS
GOODNA’S GOLDEN HOURS 2018 CATEGORY
Show us your most beautiful landscape taken during the golden hours, we want to enjoy the magnificent landscape and skies of Goodna and surrounds. Draw the imagination of the viewer and show them just how beautiful our sunrise’s or sunsets can be. Winner will be featured as Junes Image.

ARTS AWARD CREATIVE CATEGORY
This is a free for all category, anyone can enter and any subject can be examined. We want to see the most creative use of your camera to reflect an element of the festival in a most artistic and creative way. This can be as little as the colour purple of the trees or as complicated as a magnificent evening sunset. Go crazy, we want to draw the inner artists out of the crowd! Winner will be featured as Novembers image.

JUDGES
Judges will be announced closer to the date.

HOW TO ENTER
Please read carefully the terms and conditions page for entries and then visit this page from the 01/02/18 to submit your entries for review. Entries made before this date will be invalid.

Instagram entries may be posted by tagging @GoodnaJacarandaFestival and using the hashtag #jacfestinstacomp.
